Many schools are approaching the 100th day of school, which has now become an unofficial holiday in the education arena. Teachers often ask children to send in 100 items before the big day and many times I get asked, "What could you possibly do with 100 paper clips?" Elementary school teachers tend to be creative people, so I'll share some of our ideas. Read on for some fun ways to celebrate the 100th day of school with your child.
-While listening to the radio, count 100 seconds of a song;
-Create a list of 100 people you know;
-Sit quietly for 100 seconds;
-Lay out 100 paper clips to see how far they go. (Make sure young children and pets are not around!);
-Put 50 jelly beans in a jar and 100 jelly beans in another jar. Have children guess which one has 100;
-Do 10 jumping jacks, 10 times. (Count by 10s to add them up!);
-Count 100 pennies then group them and count by 2's, 5's, and 10's;
-Read "Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten" by Joseph Slate;
-Have your child complete the sentence "I could eat 100 ____, but I could never eat 100 ____."
-Make a necklace with 100 Cheerios.
Be creative and ask your children to generate activities as well. They will be eager to show you what they did at school. This is a simple and fun way to interact with your child so start counting to 100!
