Owner doesn't regret sign that banned Trump voters from his cafe
A former server at a California restaurant is now looking for work after being fired for allegedly asking customers of Hispanic heritage to provide “proof of residency.”
Diana Carillo and a few of her friends were out at Saint Marc Pub-Café in Huntington Beach on March 11 when they ordered drinks after being seated. But Carillo and her dining guests were soon shocked when the waiter allegedly asked members the party to verify that they were U.S. citizens.
“My sister and my friend were seated first and the waiter asked them for their ‘proof of residency’ when they ordered a drink,” Carillo wrote in a Facebook post following the alleged incident.
“My friend in disbelief repeated what he said and his response was ‘yeah, I need to make sure you're from here before I serve you.’ Not knowing that this happened to them, my friend and I were then seated and he returned to the table and asked us for our ‘proof of residency,’” Carillo wrote.

“After fully digesting what he said, we all got up and left to speak to the manager,” she stated.
“I hope this employee is reprimanded for his actions,” she stated in the post. “No establishment should tolerate discriminatory actions from their employees.”
The restaurant took the allegations seriously and promptly fired the worker-- who has not been named-- Carillo cited. They also issued a statement to FOX 11 and announced that they would make a donation to a charity of Carillo's choice to make amends for the ordeal.

“This very unfortunate incident has been handled internally through the termination of the employee at fault,” the restaurant said.
“We also contacted the guest and plan to donate 10 percent of this weekend’s sales to the charity of her choice, Orange County Immigrant Youth United. In no way are the actions of this former employee representative of the Saint Marc brand nor are they reflective of the opinions of anyone else on our team, including executive management.
"We have always celebrated being part of the diverse Huntington Beach community, which means valuing all guests and treating every individual with respect.”
A representative from Saint Marc Pub-Café was not immediately available for comment.
