We make burgers in the States with and where the lettuce should be, so a Japanese burger with a bacon "tongue" doesn't really phase us much.

But when a burger has a mysterious purple slime and comes in a coffin-shaped box? Yeah, OK, that might be worth a trip across the Pacific.

Just in time for Halloween, Asia's Lotteria burger chain is debuting a new "Purple Magic Bacon Double Excellent Cheeseburger" featuring everything we mentioned above along with two beef patties and two slices of cheese. It's supposedly meant to look like a monster sticking its tongue out, but that's not the part that screams "All Hallow's Eve," as far as we're concerned.

No, that honor belongs to the sauce.

According to Rocket News 24, that purple goop is actually another type of cheese sauce "to which they’ve added powdered Japan-grown purple potato." Rocket News 24 couldn't really say what the sauce tastes like — the burger officially debuts on the 6th, in Japan — but it's safe to say that it doesn't matter. It's purple and weird, and that's Halloweeny enough for us.

The Purple Magic Bacon Double Excellent Cheeseburger is available through October 31st at participating Lotteria locations in Japan. If you happen to be in the area, hurry up and get one before they go back to selling burgers without any mysterious purple slime all over the meat:

Happy Halloween!
