Chocolate maker Cadbury has officially jumped the shark with the development of three new flavors that could be added to the Milk Tray.
Kale Crème, Wasabi Crunch and Beetroot Jelly are among the “innovative flavors” the company has developed to mark the centenary of the iconic chocolate collection.
Kale Crème is said to tap into demand for savoury tastes, Beetroot Crunch is for the superfoodies and Wasabi Crunch is designed to capitalize on the “popularity of Asian flavors”.
Mondelez Europe’s Chocolate Inventor Dave Shepard said the new flavors are part of the trend for “innovation and experimentation” at the company that has led to things like the Marvellous Creation bars in recent years.
“We like to think of it as akin to the fashion catwalk — we’re experimenting with ideas that won’t actually appear on the shelves,” he said.
“Instead you may see new flavors inspired by these further down the line. This reflects how we’re always innovating to create the best possible products for our consumers, developing hundreds of flavors before selecting the winning few.”

The superfood-based flavors were dreamt up at the UK’s Bournville factory which serves as the headquarters for Mondelez chocolate creations.
While they aren’t actually available to buy they could form the basis for future flavors in the ever-changing roster that has seen things like Nut Crunch and Lime Cordial added over the years.
This year, Salted Caramel, Apple Crunch and Truffle Heart were added to the box, while Cadbury Australia experimented with a Vegemite version.
