She’s already got a Lego figure, so why not an ice cream?
Ben &Jerry's fans are appealing to company known for its wacky flavors with pop culture references to create a Ruth Bader Ginger flavor to honor Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg --and there’s even a petition to further the cause.
Boston resident Yael Mazor Garfinkle started the Change.org petition after Buzzfeed reported that Ben & Jerry's has named more than twenty ice cream flavors after people in the past 30 years -- but only two have been for women.
Those include Tiny Fey's character on “30 Rock”, Liz Lemon's Greek Frozen Yogurt, released in 2013 and Olympic snowboarder Hannah Teter, as Hannah Teter’s Maple Blondie, released in 2009. The proposed flavor is described as brown sugar cinnamon ice cream with gingersnap cookies and ginger caramel swirl.
"Ben &Jerry's prides itself on being a socially responsible company that cares about making a difference," Garfinkle explains on the Change.org petition. "Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a legal pioneer, American icon, and my personal hero." she explains.
Bader Ginsburg, whose fans have lovingly given her the moniker of Notorious RBG, has been a long-time champion for gender equality.
The petition cites that the ice cream company has named flavors after John Lennon, Willie Nelson, and Elton John, Herman Cain, Mad Men's Roger Sterling, Dexter's Dexter Morgan, The Office's Dwight Schrute, and Parks and Recreation's Ron Swanson.
As of Friday, over 3,700 people have signed the petition; with the ultimate goal is 5,000. We reached out to Ben& Jerry’s to see if they’re considering it, so we’ll let you know when we hear back.
