Disgraced politician Anthony Weiner has got a new venture cooking.
The former New York congressman, who resigned after a sexting scandal and ran a failed bid for New York Mayor, is involved in a non-profit project to open a restaurant in the Rockaways –a section of New York City still suffering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.
The project, called Rockaway Restoration Kitchen, has been described as "a comfortable neighborhood restaurant with healthy, locally sourced food that satisfies the hunger of Rockaway residents, attracts visitors and serves up dignity and self-sufficiency by serving as a hands on training ground to provide skills, real experience and job placement in the culinary industry," according to the new restaurant's website.
Rockaway Restoration Kitchen will offer a 13-week program to teach restaurant skills to the chronically unemployed in the area and help place them in restaurants around New York.
“[It will] attract visitors and serve up dignity and self-sufficiency by serving as a hands-on training ground to provide skills, real experience and job placement in the culinary industry,” it notes.
Weiner hasn't announced his involvement with the restaurant — but several sources said he’s been spotted scouting a site for it, according to the Rockaway Times.
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after a sexting scandal revealed that he sent explicit photos to women who were not his wife. He ran for mayor last year and led the field before more sexting allegations sank his bid. Recently, he has been working as a pundit and consultant.
