Wine clubs are all the rage these days.

But Club W is trying to take it a step further and introduce you to little cult wines from around the world based on your taste preferences.

All you have to do is answer a few questions on the site like, how do you take your coffee?

Really.

“You can learn a lot from your basic palate profile,” says Brian Smith, chief wine officer of Club W.

So based on your responses, Smith and his team of tasting curators will select three wines each month that they think you might like, and ship them off to you for $39 a month.

“The beauty of our model is that the more wine you drink with us and the more you interact with us through our app, the better we get at giving you wines you will love,” says Smith.

Members typically consist of young professionals ages 21-35, skewing slightly towards women. And Smith says they run the range from casual drinkers to serious collectors.

But they all have one thing in common: They just don’t have the time to spend hours trolling the local wine store for new, interesting wines. They are looking for someone to help them pick bottles they might like.

That’s basically how Club W created.

This is Smith’s bailiwick though.  He is an advanced sommelier who has developed beverage programs for Jackson Hole Wine Company and Aureole, Las Vegas where the wine team was awarded Best Sommeliers by Food and Wine Magazine.

More recently, he was a partner and wine director of Clo Wine Bar, a wine bar in Manhattan that offered 100 wines by the glass program and had an interactive virtual wine list.

Club W works directly with wineries to deliver great, affordable wines directly to your door as quickly as 24 hours after ordering and if you don’t like a bottle, they’ll replace it.  And members can cancel or skip a shipment at anytime.

So would you spend $40 a month to experience some new wines? Sounds like great gift idea for the wine lover in your life.
