Blog: An Intern's First Summer in the City
I can’t believe it’s already my second week interning at Fox News! On Monday, I helped out with some strategies for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the upcoming gubernatorial elections. We talked about different ways to drive traffic to the website and how to provide visitors with as much information on the candidates for governor as possible in order to keep them well informed.
Tuesday was all about Fox News’ social media presence and how they maintain a positive influence on the web. Fox News has a ton of different official Twitter accounts ranging from those of on-air personalities to accounts representing various shows on the network. It’s incredible to see how big a task it is just to monitor and maintain all of these accounts to ensure that the shows or personalities maintain an ongoing conversation with followers or fans.
Today I was able to sit-in on a meeting about tracking “clicks” and “traffic” to different sections of the website. It was neat to see how the digital strategy team analyzes different data in order to see what sections of the website are the most popular, what articles are the most popular, or even what advertisements are clicked on the most.
I am learning that it takes a ton of people with many different educational backgrounds to make a large news organization like Fox News Channel run and maintain a strong, positive presence in the industry.
