Swap Your Usual Cheese Pizza For Some “SMAC and Cheese”!
By Alexandra Giambattista
Who doesn't love a bowl of “mac and cheese”? Add your favorite mix ins and top it off with some extra cheese and you have a bowl of “smac” also known as the best bowl of macaroni and cheese in the city from Sarita's Macaroni & Cheese. Sarita's has only been serving its eclectic mac and cheese since 2006 and it has already made a name for its self among macaroni lovers all over NYC. With a limited amount of tables and a small counter top with stools, Sarita's is always overwhelmed with customers. Sarita's has a large variety of mac and cheese combinations which includes The Parisienne, The Napaletana, The Cajun, The Masala, Buffalo Chicken, The Garden Lite, The La Mancha, The Alpine, The Mediterranean, Cheeseburger, Four Cheese and the Classic All-American. My personal favorite is the simple and delicious Napoletana, which consists of a mixture of tomatoes, basil, roasted garlic and mozzarella cheese. Each variety has the distinct flavors of the cuisine in which they are named and includes cheeses such as mozzarella, brie, cheddar, american, gruyere, swiss, manchengo, pepper jack, goat cheese and mix ins such as figs, fennel, chorizo sausage, bacon and a variety of vegetables. The medium sized “major munch” only costs about 10 dollars and the small sized “nosh” which definitely provides more than enough mac and cheese only costs about 8 dollars. When I visited smac I ordered the major munch and needed some assistance from my friends in finishing it. Sarita's Macaroni & Cheese is located on 345 East 12th Street, NY, NY 10003 in the East Village. Smac is quickly becoming one of my favorite inventive restaurants in NYC and I highly recommend taking your friends to try this delicious spin on one of America's classics.
