DESCRIPTION OF THE CONTEST:
The FOX News Channel "College Challenge" (the "Contest") is a contest open to all four year undergraduate college and university Junior & Senior students in the fifty (50) United States and District of Columbia which offer Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees in communications, broadcast journalism, journalism or their equivalent.
Applications will be available online for submission at www.foxnews.com/collegechallenge/ (the"Website") and must be filled out in their entirety and submitted by no later than Friday, February 8, 2013.
Teams of two (2) to four (4) students (all students on a team must attend the same school) will compete by electronically submitting a video news package from the list of suggested topics available at www.foxnews.com/collegechallenge or on a news topic of their choosing by no later than Friday, March 8, 2013. In the event you cannot upload your entry to the website you may, in the alternative, send your submission on a tape or disc (see below for acceptable formats and address) which must be post marked by no later than Friday, March 15, 2013. You must provide the names of all team members with the submission of your final video segment entry on or before Friday, March 8, 2013 for digital entries or on or before Friday, March 15, 2013 for mail entries. You are permitted to change the members of your team at any time during the period between your online registration and the final submission of your video entry as long as you provide the names of the final team members with your submission.
There is no limit to the number of teams from selected schools that may enter. Entrants are limited however to one team, and teams are limited to one entry. Professors and Administrators at colleges or universities, have the option to include the Contest entry as part of the curriculum or have it as an extracurricular project. The Professor or Administrator is allowed to guide students during the project, but no outside professional assistance is permitted. Students will control all elements of the production including research, writing, videotaping, and graphics and editing.
There shall be no mention of the students' names or the college or university they attend anywhere within the news piece, however students may appear on camera. There shall also be no use of college or university logos or mascots within the news piece.
Entries must contain chyron identifications of all interview subjects and shall only contain the individual's name, area of expertise, department and/or organization; provided however, that the chyron identification shall not contain information about the individual's college or university affiliation, if any. Failure to comport with the anonymity requirements of these Rules will result in disqualification.
2. HOW TO ENTER:
Submissions must be a minimum of two minutes thirty seconds (2:30) minutes in length and a maximum of three minutes (3:00). Submissions not meeting these time requirements will be disqualified. Submissions must be uploaded to www.foxnews.com/collegechallenge/form.html by no later than March 8, 2013. Uploaded submissions shall not contain the school or student names or identifying logos anywhere within the news piece and students must follow the uploading instructions provided on the Website.
In the event you cannot upload your entry to the Website you may, in the
alternative, send your submission on tapes/discs. Tapes/discs entries must be post marked by no later than March 15, 2013.

Two separate copies of the entries must be submitted on VHS, Betacam or Betacam SP, or DVD in the following two (2) formats:
- (a) One (1) tape/disc (not for screening by Judges) - format must include the following: (a) a :05 second slate containing the title, school name, student name(s) and total running time (TRT); and (b) the accompanying tape/disc package must be clearly labeled with the title of the news piece, school name and student names. The length of the slate will not be included in the length of the overall piece.
- (b) One (1) tape/disc (for screening by Judges) - format will include the following: (a) :05 second slate containing the title and total running time (TRT); and
- (b) the accompanying tape/disc package must clearly be labeled with the title of the news piece only. The length of the slate will not be included in the length of the overall piece. No other identifying names, logos, etc., should appear anywhere on, or within the news piece with this second tape or disc.
By entering, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of FOX News Channel and the Judges, which shall be final in all respects on all aspects pertaining to this Contest. All entries must be original, and by entering you hereby assert that nothing in your entry infringes on any copyrights or trademarks, or violates any person's rights of privacy or publicity. All entries must comply with television news industry standards.
Any non-conforming entries, as determined in FOX News Channel's sole discretion, will be disqualified. FOX News Channel assumes no responsibility if for any reason, your submission cannot be viewed as intended. FOX News Channel is not responsible for any errors in Contest related materials, or lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete or illegible entries. In the event that there are no entries that comply with television news industry standards, as determined in FOX News Channel's sole discretion, FOX News Channel may not award the prize.
3. ELIGIBILITY:
This Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States, including the District of Columbia, who are undergraduate students at a four year college or university and who have selected communications, broadcast journalism, journalism or an equivalent depending on the college or university, as their primary major or area of concentration. Entrants must be at least 18 years of age or older. Void where prohibited by law. Winners may be required to execute an affidavit swearing to compliance with these eligibility requirements. Current employees or interns or former employees of FOX News Channel, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, agencies and assigns, and their immediate family members (spouse and parents, children and siblings, and their spouses) as well as individuals living in the same household of each are not eligible.
Former interns of FOX News channel, it parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, agencies and assigns are eligible to participate in the Contest, provided however that they do not
appear in either the audio or video portions of the news piece (i.e. they may only be a team member that writes, produces, edits, etc...for the news piece entry). The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The entries must be the students' original work product and shall not be publicly disseminated in any manner prior to the final judging of the Contest.
4. JUDGING:
Tapes will be judged by a panel consisting of FOX News Channel staff members who are integral in the newsgathering, production and presentation of objective news. Judges' selections are final. The judges will only view the unmarked uploaded entry or the unmarked tape or disc, so that no judge will be aware of either the students or schools involved with each submission. Judging will be based and weighted on the following criteria:
- Presentation of the story in an objective manner - all sides fairly and equitably represented. (20%)
- No pre-determined bias. No assumptions or conclusions - report the story and let the audience decide. (20%)
- Overall execution of the idea. (20%)
- Quality of the production including video, audio, editing, writing and use of chyrons, lighting, graphics and other visual or audio affects. (20%)
- Overall quality of the piece. (20%)
5. PRIZES:
One winning team will be selected. The winning team will receive a $10,000 scholarship, to be divided equally among team members, payable by FOX News Channel company check(s). Members of the winning team who are junior, undergraduate students and attending classes in the Fall of 2013 as seniors, are eligible for an unpaid, Summer 2013 internship with Fox News Network, provided they satisfy all standard internship requirements per FOX News policies. Members of the winning team who are seniors will be invited to interview for an entry level position with the Fox News Network, L.L.C. The winning Broadcast Journalism department, or the equivalent department depending on the specific college or university, will receive $10,000 to use towards scholarships, grants or new equipment.
FOX News Channel will send the winning team and one (1) administrator (professor, dean, etc.) to New York City to tour the FOX News Channel studios and may include an appearance on FOX News Channel to talk about their entry and their experience. Trip for the winning team and one administrator to New York City includes round trip coach airfare, ground transportation to and from the New York City airport and hotel, two (2) nights standard hotel accommodations; (specific dates to be determined by FOX News Channel); and One Hundred Fifty Dollars ($150.00) in spending money for each member of the winning team and the one administrator or professor. Approximate Retail Value (ARV) of Grand Prize is up to $6,000 per winner (may be less depending on number of team members) and $1,000 for the professor, dean, etc.
6. PRIZE RESTRICTIONS:
No transfer or substitution of prizes permitted by winners, except that FOX News Channel reserves the right to award a prize of equal or greater value in the event of unavailability. Winners will be contacted by telephone, regular mail or e-mail. Potential winners forfeit the prize if not claimed within three (3)
days of first attempted notification, whether notification is by e-mail, regular mail or telephone, or, if after reasonable attempts are made, notification is unsuccessful.
The actual value will vary depending on winner's city of departure. If the actual value turns out to be less than the stated ARV, the difference will not be awarded in cash. All expenses not specifically included, including but not limited to any taxes or expenses as set forth, are the sole responsibility of Winner. Winners must travel on dates specified by Fox News Channel, or may forfeit prize. Selected airline and hotel are at the sole discretion of the Fox News Channel. If winners reside within a reasonable distance of New York City, FOX News Channel may substitute transportation.
7. PROPERTY RIGHTS:
Once submitted, all entries become the property of the Sponsor and no entries will be acknowledged or returned. Submission of entry grants Sponsor and its agents the right to publish, use, adapt, edit and/or modify such entry in any way, in any and all media, without limitations and without further consideration to entrants. Submission of entry further constitutes entrants' consent to irrevocably transfer to Sponsor all rights, title and interest in the entry including without limitation, the copyright.
By submitting any material, you represent and warrant that you are the exclusive owner of the submitted material; that you have the full authority to make this representation and warranty and to submit the submitted material; and that Sponsor's use of material containing features or elements similar to or identical to those contained in the submitted material shall not obligate Sponsor to negotiate with you nor entitle you to any compensation if Sponsor determines it has an independent legal right to use the other material which is not derived from you. You further acknowledge that you are submitting the submitted material to Sponsor voluntarily and not in confidence, and that no confidential relationship is intended or created between you and Sponsor in any way. No submissions will be acknowledged or returned. Submitted material must be your original work, must not have been previously published, and must not infringe the rights of any third party.
8. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION:
Potential winners may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and, where legal, a publicity release within 14 days of first attempted notification. In the event of non-compliance with these requirements, potential winners' entry may be disqualified and an alternate winner may be selected at FOX News Channel's discretion.
All entrants agree to permit FOX News Channel to publicize their entry on its web site and in any other media, and use their entries for FOX News Channel marketing/advertising materials in all media and in perpetuity and for any and all purposes. Furthermore, upon submission, entrant waives any and all right to his/her right to privacy or publicity in connection with the entry. By entering, entrants agree to the use of the winner's name and likeness for purposes of advertising and promotion without additional compensation, unless prohibited by law.
By entering, participants release and hold harmless FOX News Channel, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability or injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with participation in this Contest or acceptance or use of any prize.
9. DISPUTES.
This Contest is governed by the laws of the United States and the State of New York, without respect to conflict of law doctrines. As a condition of participating in this Contest, participants agree that any and all disputes which cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or in connection with this Contest, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively before a court located in New York County, New York having jurisdiction.
Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances will participants be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental or consequential damages, including attorneys' fees, other than participant's actual out-of-pocket expenses (e.g. costs associated with entering), and participant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.
10. PUBLICATION OF WINNERS:
After the Contest has concluded, the winners will be published on the Website. A list of winners may also be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope by June 1, 2013 to FOX News Channel, Winners List Request, 1211 Avenue of the Americas, New York, New York 10036 Attention: Legal Department.
