Fox News College Challenge

Dos and Dont's

Do:

Be Objective: Avoid bias in reporting by not injecting your feelings or prejudice into the story.

Be Fair: Present all sides of the story. Make sure each perspective has equal weight.

Be Truthful: Your goal as a reporter is to seek out the truth. Make sure your research and investigation information are sound before reporting anything that could be deemed inaccurate.

Be Professional: You’re submitting a hard hitting news story to Fox News Channel, the most powerful name in news, therefore, your attire, language and the production of your news piece should reflect that.

Be Clear: Execute the ideas of your story logically and effectively in a manner and order that makes the most sense to your audience.

Be On-Camera: Put yourself in front of the camera to present the story, even if your name or university can’t be used (per contest rules).

Don’t:

Present only one side of the story.

Seek assistance beyond your professor for your news piece.

Mention your name or fellow student’s names in the news piece.

Mention the name or make any reference to your university, including mascots, logos, etc.

Procrastinate. Submit early to avoid technical problems and sacrificing quality.
