The 5 Most Awkward Moments at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards
At last night's MTV Video Music Awards, there was no shortage of awkward, mind-boggling, inappropriate, gross, and cringe-worthy moments. And that was just during Miley Cyrus' performance alone.

Nevertheless, there were a handful of other awkward incidents that managed to land on the radar, despite Miley's best efforts. All of them pale in comparison, admittedly, but we thought we'd take a moment to relive the best of the rest anyway.
And yes, we included Miley Cyrus' performance in our roundup, but we limited her madness to just one entry. If you're squeamish, you can just look away when you get to that part.
Taylor Swift's Beef With Harry Styles
Apparently, Taylor Swift can't contain her anger when an old boyfriend is in the room. When Harry Styles and the boys of One Direction took the stage as presenters, the camera flashed to Taylor Swift, who was in the middle of (presumably) mouthing "Shut the f*** up" at her ex. Swift also called out a former flame while accepting her award for Best Female Video, saying, "I also want to thank the person that inspired this song, and he knows exactly who he is, because I got one of these!" So apparently, she's not on good terms with anyone she's ever dated, ever.
*NSYNC Was There, Kind Of
Justin Timberlake briefly recruited his old bandmates as backup dancers in the middle of his extended performance before they quietly disappeared into the background. It wasn't so awkward for us, really, but more for the four guys who used to be (almost) as famous as Justin. Comedian Kevin Hart came out just a few minutes later to joke about how out-of-shape they looked.
Kevin Hart is *NOT* Hosting The Show
Speaking of Hart, the comedian appeared multiple times to tell jokes, introduce acts and gush about Lady Gaga's posterior. Also, he repeatedly mentioned that, despite hosting last year's festivities, he WAS NOT the host of this year's show. His remarks may have been nothing more than flat jokes, but he sometimes sounded as if he was gunning for a future gig or bitter about not getting it this time around.
One Direction Gets Booed
A lot of people at Brooklyn's Barclay's Center didn't think One Direction deserved the viewer-voted award for Best Song of The Summer, so they booed the boy band when their name was announced as the winner. Lady Gaga, on the other hand, wasn't a fan of the jeering crown, because she reportedly left the arena to console the boys backstage.
Every Single Thing Miley Cyrus Did
You knew this was coming, so let's just get to it: Miley Cyrus came out to sing "We Can't Stop" with a bunch of dancing teddy bears, then stayed on stage to perform (?) "Blurred Lines" and "Give It 2 U" with Robin Thicke, Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz. Her tongue was hanging out of her mouth from the moment she walked on stage, and things only got raunchier from there. Clothes were shed, twerking was omnipresent, and a novelty foam finger was used in a much different — and much less innocent — manner than it was initially designed for.
