The Royal Baby: It's a Boy!
It's official: The Duchess has delivered a baby boy weighing 8 pounds 6 ounces. Kate Middleton gave birth to the royal heir at 4:24 p.m. BST in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in London. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both The Duke and The Duchess' families were informed and are delighted with the news. READ: The Royal Baby: What to Look Forward To The Duchess was admitted to the facility earlier this morning at around 6 a.m. BST (2 a.m. ET), arriving with her husband, Prince William. The two reportedly arrived by car, with no police escort, and entered though a side door to avoid detection by the media. St. Mary's is also the very same hospital Princes William and Harry were delivered. Kate's pregnancy was first announced on December 3, 2012, but she and her husband William have remained mum on the sex of the child until now. But whether the baby had been born male or female, The Duke and Duchess' child is third in line to the British Throne. In the early stages of Kate's pregnancy, some media outlets were even suggesting that The Duchess might be delivering twins, after she was hospitalized in early December with a condition known as hyperemesis gravidarum, or acute morning sickness. This severe condition can be indicative of two fetuses (or more), but that apparently wasn't the case for Kate. READ: Kate Middleton's Pregnancy Questions, Answered After a hospital stay of three days, Kate continued on with her royal duties. (Hyperemesis gravidarum "usually resolves with conservative care and the administration of intravenous fluids," explains NYC gynecologist Bindi Roy- Sadarangani.) Some might say The Duchess was keeping an extra-busy schedule too, attending charity functions, portrait exhibitions and cruise-ship christenings. In fact, Middleton has stayed beautiful and busy throughout her entire pregnancy.
