Cher is dropping one role and picking up another: caretaker.
The music icon, 70, will not participate in a Lifetime movie about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, due to her “concern for her mother’s health and her desire to be close to her,” a rep for Cher told Page Six on Tuesday.
Cher’s mother, Georgia Holt, is also a singer and an actress whose credits include appearances on “I Love Lucy” and “The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet.”
She is 90 years old.
“Unfortunately I will be unable to leave Los Angeles during the scheduled filming as I am dealing with a serious family issue that prevents me from going on location for the April filming,” the singer told Variety upon giving up the role. “This has been a project so near and dear to my heart and I was truly looking forward to helping tell this story,” she said. She was also signed on as an executive producer.
The “Believe” singer has been active in relief efforts in Flint. Page Six reported in January that she bought “a large quantity of Icelandic glacial water and had it sent to Flint.”
