Talk about putting the choke into artichoke.
This is what happens when you don’t follow the recipe.
A TV news show team lost their minds, and almost their stomachs, with a festive cooking segment gone wrong.
The result is an hilarious live TV meltdown as co-hosts try to stomach the results, and collapse in laughter.
The team from Canadian Global News network had spent the week sharing their favorite festive foodie treats. But it was Leslie Horton’s homemade artichoke dip that proved a showstopper, albeit an inedible one.
The problem is evident before the dip even makes it way into colleagues’ mouths: one of the male co-hosts saying it smells like vinegar, the other saying it smells like a “barn”.
Serving huge scoops of the dip, Horton has warned them the dip didn’t work out as planned, and her co-hosts assure them they’re not being rude, as they struggle to taste.
But the vinegar taste is so strong, that for one there’s no swallowing the dip.
As his face contorts he desperately spits the dip into a napkin.
As two others on the couch dissolved into laughter, Horton, who wanted to serve a supermarket-bought Christmas cake instead, confesses she may have improvised with some of the artichoke dip ingredients.
"Something went terribly wrong,” she says, as one of her colleagues clutches her throat saying “it burns”, and collapses in giggles again.
While Horton insists there is no vinegar in the dip, the desperate plea from the couch is: “What did you do?"
She confesses she didn’t have a lemon, so used an orange instead; she didn’t know what spices to add, so took a punt with celery salt and oregano.
She later revealed she’d also used pickled artichokes.
The recipe is on the show’s website, just in case you want to prepare it for someone you hate.
