Andy Cohen‘s friendship with Kelly Ripa may have saved his life.

The Bravo honcho said he was diagnosed with skin cancer after being prompted by Ripa to get a mark on his lip checked out.

While co-hosting Friday’s episode of “Live with Kelly,” Cohen — a self-admitted “tanorexic” — explained that both Ripa and her husband, Mark Conseulos, noticed the mark and urged him multiple times to see a specialist. It turned out to be melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.

“I had a black dot on my bottom lip and you and I were at a party for Anderson’s [Cooper] mom in April, and you said, ‘You have a black dot on your lip, I don’t think that’s something good,'” Cohen told Ripa on-air.

“It was melanoma and they removed it, and I just want to thank you because you were so dogmatic,” he continued. “… The lip heals very well and I really had a chunk removed out of it.”

The “Superficial” author, 48, went on to say that his relationship with the sun will be forever changed.

“I am tanorexic, I love the sun.  And I of course never thought that kind of thing would happen to me, and it will change my relationship to the sun,” Cohen said.

Ripa disclosed that it was the third time she spotted a questionable mark on a friend. Both expressed the importance of checking the skin.
