Although her three boys with software developer husband Scott Phillips are a handful, "Modern Family’s" Julie Bowen finds comfort in Reese Witherspoon’s advice that, “if you’re not yelling at your kids, you’re not spending enough time with them.”

Thanks @monstertruckjam for a great night!

The 46-year-old told US Weekly, “Reese Witherspoon, who I’ve only met once, saved my life with one quote.”

Witherspoon’s comment made Bowen feel better, she says, about her rambunctious munchkins Oliver, 9, and twins Johnny and Gus, 7.

“I was like, ‘Oh, this must mean I’m a good mom!’”

Bowen’s trio of three kids wrestle naked often.

“Everything is hilarious until someone starts crying,” she said. "How many times can you say, 'No yanking on one another’s genitals?'”

Bowen's mom philosophy has not only been influenced by Witherspoon but also by slightly frazzled mom Claire Dunphy, her ABC show’s alter ego.

I’ve learned a lot from Claire! Somewhere early on in the series, she said wisely that her job wasn’t to be the kids’ friend; it was to be the mom. I don’t think I fully understood it at the time because my kids were really little, but I get it now,” Bowen said.
