If you thought the debut run of "Outlander" was full of exhilarating twists and turns, just wait until you catch up on the sophomore season.

On the latest episodes of STARZ's hit series, time-traveling nurse Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and her lover Jamie (Sam Heughan) flee to France to escape the aftermath of battle. Only now — due to Claire's knowledge of the future — she's the only one who can foresee the ending of a failed uprising that threatens Jamie's homeland.

"Season one was about individuals, and about them getting to know each other: It's the honeymoon period, the young lovers," explains Heughan. "And I think season two feels more grown up. They're there to change history. There's a lot to contend with."

"And it's visually a very different show," adds Balfe. "The color palette is so different, it's so much more sumptuous and rich than last season."

But before all you "Outlander" fans begin to worry, know that the show plans to stick close to Diana Gabaldon's source material.

"We're aware that there are a lot of people who these books are very dear to, and these characters and these stories are very dear to," says Tobias Menzies, who plays Jack/Frank Randall. "It gives you a bit of a sense of responsibility."
