The search is on for Michael Strahan's replacement on "Live! With Kelly and Michael" after he announced Tuesday he would be leaving the show for "GMA."

The former professional footballer player shocked viewers, and reportedly his co-host Kelly Ripa as well, when he said he was leaving the morning show. With Strahan out, a few names have popped up as rumored replacements.

A source told People that Ripa has always wanted Anderson Cooper to join her on the ABC show.

"When Regis [Philbin] left, the person Kelly wanted more than anyone else was Anderson Cooper, but he was busy launching his own talk show."

Now that Cooper's morning show was canceled, he is free to join his friend Ripa on "Live!" but no word from his camp yet.

Another obvious choice would be the man behind the "Real Housewives" series Andy Cohen. He is good friends with Ripa.

The "Watch What Happens Live" has filled in as a guest host on the show several times. His name popped up in 2012 as a possible replacement when Philbin left.

However, Cohen denied he was up for the job to TMZ saying he is just "too busy."

Another possible option for Strahan's replacement is Josh Groban. The singer has co-hosted with Ripa before and fans campaigned for him to replace Philbin in 2012 before Strahan was chosen.

One more name that has been mentioned is football player Von Miller. The athlete has gained a lot of popularity from his time on the current season of "Dancing With the Stars" and it would be following in Strahan's footsteps to go from football to morning talk show host.

He appeared as a guest on the show on Wednesday when "Saturday Night Live" alum Ana Gasteyer filled in for a missing Ripa.
