Actress talks new album, return to Broadway
Don’t expect to make bank hosting the Tonys.
Kristin Chenoweth and pal Alan Cumming joked about the pretty paltry sum of $2,700 they each earned emceeing last year’s Broadway awards show when they reunited onstage earlier this week at Carnegie Hall.
“It was barely enough to cover subway fare,” quipped the “Wicked” songstress.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reportedly each made “in the low six figures” to host the Golden Globes a few years ago, according to a 2013 Vanity Fair article.
Chenoweth, 47, also laughed about how CBS producers were seemingly so disinterested in her Tonys song and dance routines that they watched an NBA game off-stage as she performed.
An insider told Page Six it was Cumming’s idea to jibe the network as part of his revue, “Sappy Songs with Friends,” which included musical appearances from other guests including Ricki Lake and Darren Criss.
Despite the lousy payday, the Broadway vets apparently wouldn’t think twice about doing it all over again.
“This was a fun, comedic bit that Kristin and Alan did during his show,” a rep for Chenoweth told Page Six. “They had a great time hosting the Tony Awards together.”
“Late Late Show” host James Corden, a Tony winner in 2012 for “One Man, Two Guvnors,” is slated to make his debut as emcee of this year’s June 12th ceremony at the Beacon Theatre in NYC.
