J.J. Abrams is so happy with the "Star Wars: Episode VIII" script, he's sad he's not directing it.

"The Force Awakens" director's longtime friend, actor Greg Grunberg -- who is featured in the newest movie -- told The Washington Post that Abrams "said something he never, ever says" when reading the script: It's "so good," he wished he was the one directing the movie.

"I never hear him express regret like that,” added Grunberg, who starred in Abrams’ TV dramas "Alias" and "Felicity." To Abrams’ credit, he is staying on for "Episode VIII" as an executive producer.

Rian Johnson (Looper) is directing "Episode VIII," which is due out in 2017.

Of course, it's hard to imagine that Disney would not be dying to get Abrams as involved with the upcoming "Star Wars" movies as possible. Not only has "The Force Awakens" been seen as a critically acclaimed re-invigoration of the franchise, but after making $248 million on its opening weekend, the film broke basically all the records ever (plus that BB-8 droid will have our hearts forever).
