An actor who appeared in the movie “Shallow Hal” passed away last week in his native Hawaii.
Joshua Shintani, who famously played a ukulele in the 2001 rom-com, died of pneumonia last Wednesday, TMZ reported Monday. He was just 32 years old.
The actor’s mother told the website she took her son to a Kauai emergency room early last week, where doctors discovered he was suffering from an advanced case of pneumonia.

Co-director Peter Farrelly spotted Shintani, whose performance of “Never Forget Where I’m From” in “Shallow Hal” made him a local legend, while he was playing his ukelele outside a Hawaiian library. He immediately cast him in the Gwyneth Patlrow and Jack Black-starring movie, which was the only role of his career.
