Taylor Swift may have left country music behind to pursue a pop career, but the singer-songwriter continues to break records and be embraced by the Nashville songwriting community.
On Sunday night, Swift was awarded her seventh Songwriter/Artist of the Year Award at the 45th Nashville Songwriters Association’s annual gala dinner. She also happened to set a new record for the award.
The ceremony, held at Nashville’s Music City Center, recognized the most popular songs written by Music City songwriters. Though Swift wasn’t in attendance as she is currently on her "1989" Tour, she provided a video message that showcased her love for the Nashville songwriting community.
“There’s really no community that I respect or admire more than the songwriting community,” the star says, adding, “I wouldn’t be where I was as an artist or a writer without the songwriters who taught me what it is to work hard.”
In addition to Swift’s award, songwriting recognition went to Rodney Clawson. Clawson was named Songwriter of the Year at NSAI’s annual gala. Having spent decades as a writer with cuts by Faith Hill, George Strait and Jason Aldean, Clawson wrote several hits this past year including Kenny Chesney's “American Kids,” Lady Antebellum 's "Bartender” and Florida Georgia Line's “Dirt.”
