NBC’s "Today" show is celebrating its first Premiere Week win in the news demo since 2011.
ABC’s "Good Morning America" won Premiere Week in overall audience its fourth Premiere Week win with viewers aged 2+. But its three-year streak taking the demo win the first week of the “official” TV season is ended, as NBC’s show continued its demo ratings momentum for a fourth consecutive week to include Premiere Week.
The ratings, expected yesterday morning, were delayed until today for all the morning shows’ Premiere Week after Nielsen issued numbers that included broadcasts retitled due to substantial preemptions due to Pope Francis coverage. The Pope made a muddle of the tabulations: "GMA" and "Today" have been broken out on Thursday, and each telecast excluded from the weekly averages. In addition, GMA had breakout portions on Friday, "Today" on Wednesday and Friday, and "CBS This Morning" on Wednesday and Thursday.
For the first official week of the TV season, "Today" logged 1.7M news demo viewers and 4.3M viewers. "GMA" averaged 4.7 million viewers and 1.5M in the news demo. "CBS This Morning" averaged 3.3M viewers and 950K in the news demo.
