Riding through the streets of Midtown on blue Citi Bikes earlier this month, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kelly Rohrbach came to a halt at a red light. The 25-year-old model, wearing sexy white overall shorts, leaned over and locked lips with the scruffy leading man.
So who is the all-American, pillow-lipped beauty who charmed the “Wolf of Wall Street” playboy?
With a degree from elite Georgetown University and a financier father, she has a pedigree unlike the average bikini babe.
Described by pals as a “tomboy” who favors jeans and a T-shirt, Rohrbach played golf at the Big East school before giving it up for the theater. The personification of country-club preppy, Rohrbach — who now splits her time between downtown Manhattan and Los Angeles — grew up in posh Greenwich, Conn., at a home with a private golf facility. And though she primarily considers herself an actress, she has gone from virtual unknown to rising star in the fashion world within just a year.
“When she came into the office, she floored us immediately,” recalls MJ Day, editor of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Arriving at the magazine’s Midtown offices dressed in a white tank top and denim shorts, she says Rohrbach immediately stood out from the 100-odd swimsuit hopefuls who walked through the doors.
“She had that spark. She’s an incredible conversationalist. When she is around, you are sucked into her. She takes the room with her presence in the best possible way.”
Since landing a spot in the pages of the hallowed publication, her cred with the high-fashion crowd is growing. Sources tell The Post that Rohrbach’s pout will grace upcoming covers of French Elle and Jalouse, a prestigious Parisian fashion glossy.
“I only book people that I hope will take it to the next level,” says Day.
And let’s not forget her budding romance with DiCaprio.
“I haven’t talked to her about her relationship status, but I am sure [dating Leo] is a fun bonus,” Day continues. “I’m glad she is coupled up with such a famous actor. And why not? She’s a 20-something beautiful girl. I’m glad they are having fun.”
While it’s unclear when the genetically blessed pair became a hot item, sources tell The Post that a friend introduced her to DiCaprio during an Oscars party back in February. Ironically, Rohrbach played down her Academy Awards party-hopping in an interview with sports Web site SB Nation’s Casual Hoya.
“I just kind of talked to whomever I wanted to talk to, just like when you’re at any other party. Kind of like, ‘Hey, man, what’s up?’ ”
No doubt, the Tinseltown playboy was dazzled by her confidence and ease.
“I’m definitely quick-witted,” she recently told Esquire. “And I can hang with the guys. I’m pretty relaxed, and nothing really offends me. I think everything’s funny, to be honest.”
Rohrbach, who declined to be interviewed by The Post, grew up with the competitive chops to make it in a cutthroat business. The second-eldest of five siblings, she and her sister Brooke were both stars on the links at Greenwich Academy, a private all-girls school.
“She’s an incredible golfer,” says her high school coach Lee Murdoch, who adds that Rohrbach’s family belongs to the elite Winged Foot Golf Club in Westchester and the Stanwich Club in Greenwich. Murdoch adds she never expected Rohrbach, who was team captain her senior year, to become a famous model.
