Country-pop trio Lady Antebellum have become known for pushing the boundaries of what it means to be an artist in the country genre, and their latest endeavor steps even further into the unknown.

After collaborating with dance music DJ Zedd at the CMT Music Awards for a performance of a medley featuring their hit, “Long Stretch of Love,” the band revealed they have teamed with another EDM (electronic dance music) artist, Audien, for a new track called “Something Better.”

“This is one of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time. Lyrically, it was powerful, Lady A’s Charles Kelley says (quote via Rolling Stone Country) of the new tune, with which the band were recently approached. “It took us out of our comfort zone. We’re learning as a band not to be so scared of .things We’ll always stay true to the country genre, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun.”

Thats exactly the discussion country fans have been having for years what makes country music country music, and should there be distinct guidelines to stay within stylistically?

Lady Antebellum don’t see the answer as black-and-white.

“I’ve said the past four or five years, we need to start looking at this genre as a different thing, Kelley explains. “It’s broad. Pop music is so broad, why can’t we be broad? And let George Strait and Josh Turner live on the same channel as Sam Hunt and Taylor Swift why not?”

Meanwhile, fans get to experience the outcome of Lady As open-minded creative attitude, from Sam Hunts hip-hop infused tracks opening for the band on tour to a new experiment with EDM artists.

Singer Hillary Scott reports that “Something Better” is set to release later this summer.
