Penelope Cruz’s father has died at the age of 62.

HOLA! magazine reported the Spanish actress’ father, Eduardo Cruz, suffered a heart attack in the early hours of Thursday in Spain, according to his brother-in-law.

The magazine reported he suffered from heart problems and had been admitted to the hospital several times. He died at the Spanish Mediterranean resort of La Manga del Mar Menor, EFE reported.

According to officials, Eduardo Cruz's wife, Carmen Moreno, alerted emergency services at dawn, but by the time they arrived he had already passed.

The elder Cruz lived with wife Moreno, whom he married in last year after a 12-year relationship, and their 3-year-old daughter Salma. The couple managed a hair and beauty salon near their home in La Manga.

Eduardo Cruz is also father of Penelope, Monica and Eduardo Jr., from his first marriage to Encarna Sanchez.

Penelope Cruz nor her husband Javier Bardem have commented on his death.

The 40-year-old actress was very close to her father, who was spotted several times throughout the years at her movie premieres or set. She previously told The Mirror that family was the most important thing in her life.

"You need to have time for your own life and as a mother that changes even more," she said. "Family is the most important thing for me… and if you have children you want to raise them yourself."
