Thompson Square are rebuilding their Alabama home from the studs after flooding destroyed the property. The incident happened while they were on the road and unfortunately went unnoticed for six days.
A leak in the upstairs bathroom is to blame, the married duo explain. Keifer Thompson tells ABC News Radio that Shawna’s mother went to the house to let someone in and stepped into ankle-deep water.
"It's all down to the studs. It's been a nightmare," Thompson shares (quote via KTIC Radio).
Furniture and rugs were ruined, as were envelopes announcing the duo as winners of ACM and CMA Awards. They'd only been living there for a year and a half at the time, and they’re doing their best to keep smiling.
"It was so cute," Shawna shares. "One of the guys that came out to help us clean it out, he was like, 'I can't believe stuff like this happens to people like Thompson Square!' We're just normal people like everybody else!"
More damage came when the cleaning crew backed a truck into the front porch, destroying it. "I'm waiting for lightning to strike," Keifer jokes.
The duo has had a spate of bad luck recently. In addition to the flooding, a bus carrying their crew was involved in an accident shortly before the ACM Awards. The Trans Am singers were not onboard the Denver-bound bus at the time, and while several people in the other bus involved in the wreck were injured, the duo’s team escaped unharmed.
