On the verge of becoming the first billionaire Super Model, Gisele Bundchen has done it all --from haute couture to Victoria's Secret to NFL wife.
Gisele Bündchen has lit up the catwalks around the world for 20 years. On Wednesday, the 34-year-old mother of two will bid farewell.
Sharing a photo from her very first runway show at the age of 14, the Brazilian supermodel remembered her career and her journey to become one of the most known faces in the world.
“I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey,” Bündchen captioned the Instagram photo. “Today, after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business.”
Bündchen marks her runway retirement with a final lap for Colcci, the Brazilian streetwear label she has represented since 2005.
Bündchen, the wife of NFL quarterback Tom Brady, posted a second photo on Tuesday of her in white tank top with the words, “The best is yet to come,” on the back.
“Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop,” she said. “I respect my body, it’s a privilege to be able to stop.”
While she will no longer being sashaying down the runway, Bündchen said she is not leaving the fashion business, but instead will focus on her family and other editorial modeling projects.
“I don’t see how to continue (modeling on the catwalk) … and stopping will leave room for other projects I have for myself,” she added, not elaborating on any other projects.
News of Bündchen’s retirement was first reported early last month in Brazil’s Moda Estadao.
She first started modeling at 14 when she was spotted by Elite modelling agency in her native country. She got her big break in 1996 when she hit her first catwalk at New York Fashion Week.
Throughout her career Bündchen has worked with the likes of Chanel, Valentino, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Alexander Wang and Carolina Herrera as well as Victoria’s Secret. She currently has high-profile campaigns for Chanel No. 5, Stuart Weitzman, H&M, Balenciaga and Pantene.
