As it enters its third overseas frame, Lionsgate’s "Insurgent" has risen to $100.1 million at the international box office. It crossed the $100 million mark on Tuesday and has notably bested the lifetime of Divergent on a dollar basis in Brazil, Russia, Venezuela and the Philippines.
Insurgent is tracking well above in local currencies, indicative of the dramatic swings in various tenders versus the greenback over the past year. In France, for example, "Insurgent" had sold 1.68 million tickets as of March 31, outperforming "Divergent's" lifetime of 1.49 million admissions. Although France is "Insurgent's" top overseas play, the dollar cume is currently $10.9million while "Divergent's" final tally was $13.3 million.
Currently at $89.7 million domestically, Tris & Co should sail past $100 million in North America this weekend, bringing the worldwide total to over $200 million. "Divergent" topped out at about $289 million; $138 million from overseas. "Insurgent" was the No. 2 movie abroad last frame, coming in behind "Cinderella" which had opened well in the UK, France and Spain, and held in China. "Insurgent" opened in Spain yesterday and a China date has yet to be set.
The top cumes below France are the UK ($8.3 million), Brazil ($7.8 million), Russia/CIS ($7.4 million), Mexico ($7.3 million), Australia ($6 million), Venezuela ($4.2 million), Germany ($3.7 million), the Philippines ($3 million), Benelux ($2.9 million) and Italy ($2.6 million).
