Chicago area radio personalities WSCR-AM 670 hosts Dan Bernstein and Matt Spiegel have apologized for tweets about Comcast Sports Chicago sports reporter Aiyana Cristal that many found offensive.
What began as a critique of Cristal’s sideline reporting at a Chicago Bulls game last Wednesday night quickly turned into a sophomoric exchange on social media sexualizing the journalist.
"Aiyana Cristal makes me uncomfortable. I feel how hard she's trying, & end up awkwardly rooting for her to finish cleanly,” Spiegel wrote on Twitter.
His colleague Bernstein chimed in: “I have no rooting interest in her work, but enjoy her boobs.”
Spiegel replied: "I am improbably distracted from them by her professional discomfort, it's a crime.”
The Twitterverse quickly went into a rage calling out the shock jocks as "appalling" and "sexist."
The hosts deleted their tweets and both apologized on social media, as well as on air.
"I missed an opportunity to keep the subject on point, and stay respectful. I'm sorry for that on many levels and sad I offended Aiyana and others,” tweeted Spiegel.
The sports anchor, who joined CSN in September 2013, took to both her official Twitter and Facebook page this weekend and issued a lengthy statement saying, in part “sexual harassment is never acceptable” and “this incident serves as a gross reminder that women continue to fight every day to be treated equally”
Cristal is being applauded on social media for her stand, with over 250 likes on her Facebook page and counting.
FOX411 reached out to Cristal but did not receive comment.
