Not so long ago there was talk that Spanish actor Javier Bardem might have trouble getting jobs in Hollywood after publicly condemning Israel’s military strikes against Gaza as “genocide.”

But that does not seem the case.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 45-year-old actor is in talks to play a villain opposite Johnny Depp in the fifth installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

Plot details are unknown, but the “No Country for Old Men” actor would be playing a ghost captain who blames Depp’s Jack Sparrow for the death of his brother.

Bardem’s wife, Penelope Cruz – who also signed a letter denouncing Israel’s actions – appeared in the fourth instalment of the franchise.

A love interest for Sparrow is also reportedly being cast. Sources close to the film told The Hollywood Reporter that talks are in an early stage.

For the film, named “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” Geoffrey Rush is also set to return as Barbosa, with Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg directing.

The film is expected to shoot over five months next year in Australia.
