The clinic that Joan Rivers visited for a medical procedure on Aug. 28 won’t comment on a report claiming a doctor who tended to the late-comedian took a selfie with her while she was unconscious.

The CNN report claims a doctor Rivers brought with her to Yorkville Endoscopy performed a biopsy on her vocal cords without the star’s consent. While she was under anesthesia, the doctor reportedly took a selfie with the unconscious TV icon.

During her visit to Yorkville Endoscopy, 81-year-old Rivers went into cardiac arrest and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where she was placed on life support. She died seven days later.

“Yorkville has said and still says that a biopsy of the vocal cords was not done at its site,” a rep for the clinic said. “Otherwise due to HIPAA laws it cannot comments on its patients or their procedures.”

Since Rivers’ visit to the clinic, Yorkville Endoscopy has been subject to intense scrutiny—both from the media and from the Medical Examiner’s Office and State Department of Health. Officials have visited the clinic to review records and interview staff members as part of the Department of Health’s investigation of the clinic.

Meanwhile, Yorkville Endoscopy has parted ways with its medical director, Dr. Lawrence Cohen. In a statement on Friday, the clinic said the doctor was no longer affiliated with the clinic.

Rivers was a trailblazer for all comics—especially for women. The raspy-voiced blonde with the brash New York accent was a TV talk show host, stage, film and TV actress, author, fashion critic, and she sold a line of jewelry.
