Amanda Bynes has yet to speak out about her bizarre behavior that made headlines on a weekly basis last year, but her lawyer has opened up to People magazine to dispel some rumors about her mental health.
Though it was widely reported that Bynes is on various medications after she was taken to a mental hospital for evaluation last year, her lawyer insisted to the mag that she is medication-free.
"Amanda currently is on zero medication," Tamar Arminak said. "She's devoted to living her life as healthy as possible. She's never had a history of abusing alcohol or hard drugs, and she's proud to say she's been marijuana-free for the past nine months."
Bynes' arrest in New York last year made headlines when she allegedly tossed a bong out of a window in her apartment.
Her lawyer insisted that rumors that she is schizophrenic also are false.
"For the record, Amanda does not have schizophrenia, nor has she ever been diagnosed with it."
A source told People that Bynes and her family are still working to determine what caused her antics and public breakdown. Last year, she frequently tweeted strange and vulgar messages, often calling other celebrities “ugly” and obsessing about rapper Drake. She also shaved her head and posted nearly nude pictures online after she underwent a drastic makeover to look like stripper Blac Chyna. Bynes then immediately left the limelight after she lit a fire in a random person’s driveway in California and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. She then went to rehab and has since been under her parents’ care.
"She continues to undergo outpatient therapy several times a week," a source told the magazine. "She's still working through the causes of her past bizarre behavior."
Arminak added, "Her family is closely involved with her day-to-day life, but they try to give her as much autonomy as possible. She's doing extremely well. Her primary focus is bonding with her family and being a student."
Bynes, who is currently studying fashion, recently posted bikini pictures from her spring break trip. Her parents reportedly supervised the vacation to Mexico.
Her lawyer explained that the starlet wants to keep her medical information private, but she authorized Arminak to speak in order to clear up some rumors.
"She has remained silent because she believed it was best to keep her mental health diagnosis private."
Her mother, Lynn, told the magazine, "We're so proud of how far Amanda has come."
