Shaquille O’Neal’s alleged ex-mistress Vanessa Lopez lost her battle against the former NBA big man in court — but allegations from the case continue to be leaked. Sources tell The New York Post that Shaq plans to fight back. And Lopez says she’s penning a tell-all.
In a 2010 suit, Lopez claimed she was O’Neal’s mistress for years, and he harassed her and hacked her phone after they split. The case was dismissed and Lopez’s legal team, including Gloria Allred, jumped ship. Despite the case being dead, details continue to leak online from Lopez’s deposition, including O’Neal’s alleged sexual preferences and claims that he carried a gun.
A source close to the now-NBA commentator told us, “Shaq had one tryst with this woman and regrets ever having done that. This case was dismissed by a judge who declared Lopez to be a liar. But [people close to her] have been peddling her story ever since. Sports Illustrated, after going through the facts, twice killed it.” The source added that O’Neal’s fighting back, and could file a claim as soon as this week against Lopez to cover his legal fees from her failed suit.
Lopez fired back: “I’m not worried about that. I’m crossing my fingers he does, and we’ll prove what he’s done,” adding she’s planning a tell-all book. Of Sports Illustrated, she said, “I was interviewed by SI, but [O’Neal’s team] shut it down. They’ve completely tried to shut down my story.”
O’Neal’s attorney, Benjamine Reid, commented: “The courts have ruled that Lopez lied, lied often and lied about important things — demonstrating an ‘utter disrespect for the system of justice.’ In fact, her case was dismissed because she committed fraud in court . . . For years, Lopez has tried unsuccessfully to peddle her preposterous stories, and this is only the latest attempt to cash in.” Allred and Lopez’s attorney declined to comment.
In his 2011 book, “Shaq Uncut,” O’Neal, who divorced in 2009, wrote, “I admit it — I was a guy . . . Choosing to be with some of those women . . . I shouldn’t have done it at all.”
