It was a night of overall high scores at Monday’s “Dancing with the Stars,” but in the end a couple had to go home – and who was picked was shocking.
After dancing their hearts out in their individual and group dances, the two couples in jeopardy were Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Sasha Farber, along with the lowest scoring couple (two weeks in a row) comedian Bill Engvall and Emma Slater.
Polizzi and Farber, though she had some trouble keeping step, still impressed the judges with her samba. They said she had done well, but it took her some time to get into the samba groove and at times was ahead of the music.
Engvall and Slater were saved last week after producers decided to nix all votes after technical issues at the end of the prior show. They seemed prepared to leave Monday night after receiving their score.
But in a twist that no one saw coming – just like Cristina Milian’s surprising elimination two weeks ago – it was Polizzi and Farber who were sent home, despite receiving high scores from the judges.
A gasp of surprise could be heard in the audience, and even Engvall and Slater had surprised looks on their faces.
“I can’t even talk right now,” said a tearful Polizzi, who was born in Chile but adopted by an Italian-American family. “I love everybody here.”
Other highlights from the night included an almost perfect score for hurting (physically) couple Amber Riley and Derek Hough for the paso doble, and a much improved Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff, who blew away the judges with a cha cha.
