Source: Amanda Bynes allowed out of rehab for outings

Things are looking up for troubled starlet Amanda Bynes.

In July Bynes, 27, was placed under a mental health hold at a Los Angeles hospital after her bizarre behavior led medical authorizes to determine that she was a threat to herself and others around her. Now, after three months of intense treatment, it seems she is improving.

The world hasn’t heard a peep from Amanda since she was taken to a mental health hospital and then moved to a rehab facility, but according to a well-placed insider, the troubled actress is now being allowed out the Malibu-area rehab for supervised outings.

“Amanda is being given two passes a week to go the beach, or out to eat and do things like that, accompanied by a professional handler,” a source told FOX411. “She is making great progress.”

Eyebrows were raised at the end of September after news broke that Bynes had left the strict medical confines of the UCLA psychiatric ward, however we’re assured that the treatment she is receiving at rehab is specifically tailored to her needs, and it’s expected she will remain there full-time for at least another three months.

We’re also told that another key component of Bynes’ road to recovery has been reconnecting with her parents, Lynn and Rick Bynes. Despite reports of a somewhat rocky relationship between parents and their famous daughter in recent years, her folks have been making frequent trips to the luxe rehabilitation facility. Last month, Lynn formerly withdrew her court petition to obtain conservatorship over her daughter.

Legal representatives for Bynes and Bynes’ mother did not respond to a request for comment.
