The lead female and male roles in the movie adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey” have been cast.

Ending countless rumors and speculation, the erotic novel’s British-Chilean author E.L. James announced Monday that Charlie Hunnam will play the 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey, and Dakota Johnson will play Anastasia Steele, the college student he captivates.

“I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey,” James said on Twitter.

A second Tweet followed announcing Hunnam’s role in the project.

Johnson is the 23-year-old daughter of actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. She has had small roles in "The Social Network" and "21 Jump Street."

Griffith, who is now married to Spanish actor Antonio Banderas, took to Twitter to share her excitement.

“My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna Steel in 50 Shades,” she Tweeted on Monday. “Look out world! Here she comes!!! #proudmama.”

The 33-year-old British actor Hunnam starred in this summer's robot-monster battle "Pacific Rim." He currently stars in the FX series "Sons of Anarchy."

“Fifty Shades of Grey” has been translated in 50-plus languages and has sold more than 70 million copies worldwide.

The movie, to be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, will hit theaters next August.
