It seems that is really happening: Jennifer Lopez may be returning to “American Idol” next season.
After rumors surrounding Lopez’s return to the singing competition show have been circulating for months, a source close to the 44-year-old said she is "very close to signing a deal with Fox to return to ‘American Idol’ next season."
"Both Fox and Jennifer are very happy about this and want it to happen very much," the source told People magazine.
On Thursday, after announcing Keith Urban would officially be returning as a judge, Fox president Kevin Reilly said Lopez may be joining him.
"Jennifer has been a close part of the show all along…there have been discussions there,” Reilly told E News. “There is no deal with her or anyone else."
This announcement comes days after news broke that Lopez was reportedly rejected from appearing on Idol’s chief rival “The Voice.”
According to an insider who spoke with the New York Post, Lopez was rejected from appearing as a guest star on the season four finale of the NBC hit and was also axed from being a mentor.
“She submitted herself to have a recurring role,” the source told the Post. “When you submit yourself to be a performer, the show can see how [the fans] and ratings react to your episode. But, they said no to both.”
While Lopez has yet to comment on either situation, the source who spoke about her “Idol” return also elaborated that she was never angling to have an ongoing role on “The Voice.”
"Jennifer never had discussions with NBC about being a judge," the source told People. "She was approached by NBC about performing but had to turn it down because of scheduling conflicts."
