Amanda Bynes detained for mental health evaluation
Actress held at psychiatric hospital after disturbance
Amanda Bynes has been hospitalized and is being held for mental evaluation in California, a rep for the Ventura County Sheriff's office told FOX411.
The former child star -- who managed to stay out of the gossip headlines for just a few weeks -- is being held on a 5150 hold, which is an involuntary hospitalization for mental analysis.
"Amanda Bynes was involved in a disturbance in a residential neighborhood last night in Thousand Oaks in the 200-block of Avenida De Los Arboles. Deputies investigated the incident and determined that she met the criteria of 5150... She was detained and taken for a mental health evaluation," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
The 5150 hold, which can last for up to 72 hours, was brought on after Bynes started a small fire in the driveway of a home in Southern California, deputies said.
Britney Spears was memorably taken to the hospital on a 5150 hold in 2008. She was then placed under a conservatorship, and her father took legal control over her life.
Bynes' parents are reportedly hoping to convince a judge to place the actress under a conservatorship as well.
On Sunday, the actress ran into some issues in the same neighborhood when she was caught allegedly trespassing at a retirement community just outside of Los Angeles.
Bynes, 27, went to an old-age home in the area to visit a relative, but she was turned away because management at the facility thought she seemed drunk, according to TMZ.
Workers at the retirement home then called a cab for Bynes, but the starlet reportedly hopped out of the vehicle when she realized she had no money with her and proceeded to walk back to the old folks’ home.
When she returned to the retirement community, management reportedly called police and accused her of trespassing.
Earlier this month Bynes appeared in a New York court on allegations that she chucked a marijuana bong out the window of her 36th-floor Manhattan apartment.
She also has taken to social media to criticize a host of celebrities recently.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s Bynes was one of the hottest actors on children's TV.
Beginning in 2000, she won four consecutive Kids Choice Awards for best television actress, the first for her role in the ensemble kids comedy-variety show "All That" and the others for her starring vehicle "The Amanda Show." She also received Kids Choice Awards for best movie actress in 2003 and 2004 for the films "Big Fat Liar" and "What A Girl Wants."
Bynes, who grew up in Thousand Oaks, also starred in the popular television series "What I Like About You," which aired from 2002 to 2006, and several TV movies before her career began to decline.
