No gifts, thanks, for the new royal baby

No gifts, please. We’re British.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are asking all the royal baby watchers out there to refrain from sending personal gifts of clothing, toys and books once the new royal bundle arrives sometime next month.

Instead, they want well-wishers to donate to charities because they know that in these austere times, people from their many causes need far more than they do. And, let’s face it, this baby, who will be third in line to the throne, will want for nothing.

Also expected to benefit from the impending royal birth: the UK economy. Experts have predicted a massive windfall, with Britons expected to spend a staggering £243 million ($376 million) on champagne, memorabilia and food for baby-related parties.

At the same time, the Buckingham Palace shop reports constantly rising pre-orders of all things Kate, including books and postcards of the world’s most famous mum-to-be.

Also getting ready for the baby bonanza: the world famous Madame Tussauds London. Wax figures of William and Kate already are the number one attraction there and the cheeky people at the tourist haven are taking no chances when it comes to the new arrival. They already have had wax babies made of both sexes - so the minute the news breaks of the birth, they can simply slip the correct wax baby into the couple’s hands.

Finally, if you want to know how the Duchess passes the time while relaxing at the palace in her last month of pregnancy, she is simply, like so many expectant mums, feet up and chilling out.

“She loves a good laugh-out-loud movie and in particular the big Hollywood comedy hit  ‘Bridesmaids,’ which is one of her and William’s favorite films,” said one source. She also reportedly is a big fan of the stately drama “Downton Abbey.”
