Can Britney Spears handle the pressures of a major Las Vegas show?

While some celebs try to smile and look pretty for the camera, Britney shows us all her dimensions.

Watch out Sin City – Britney Spears is headed your way. The pop star is slated to get down and dirty in Sin City night after night with her own Vegas show, following in the footsteps of musical greats such as Celine Dion, Cher and Bette Midler.

Although an official announcement is yet to be made, Spears has confirmed that she is already sweating it out to get her body in tip-top shape for the gig.

"The (Vegas) performances won't be simple – they'll be a massive party from start to finish," the pop princess told the recent issue of Shape magazine. "And to pull this off, I have to be in top condition and running at full speed.”

However, given Spears’s dramatic history of personal problems, many are questioning if a long-running Vegas show may be too much for Spears. The singer was hospitalized and had a very public breakdown in 2008, which prompted her to be put under conservatorship.

“There is little chance that she can do actually do this. The stress of a daily public appearance and the physical nature of a show could overwhelm her for sure,” a source connected to the star told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column. “As the show comes closer, she may start to fall apart. It’s definitely a concern.”

And according to legal analyst Wendy Feldman, there’s a reason Spears is still under conservatorship more than five years later.

“There is no doubt that Spears has mental health issues or the judge would be forced to lift the conservatorship even if she wanted to keep it... No amount of costumes, auto tune or dancers will be able to hind the shy nature of Britney. We love her because we love nostalgia, but sometimes money is not enough of a reason to take a job.”

The long-rumored Vegas show is going to be set at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, a hotel that caters to the young and modern crowd, and Caesars Entertainment is expected to unveil the full productions details any day now. This is all while Spears works on her eighth studio album –produced by Will.i.am.

So does the prominent performer, generally known for her visually impressive numbers, have what it takes to fill a concert hall night after night?

“Fans are typically very forgiving. They are rooting for Britney and will come out to see the show. That said, if this Vegas show does not deliver and there is bad word of mouth, we will see that even loyal fans won’t come anymore,” noted L.A-based television personality and celebrity psychotherapist, Stacy Kaiser.

And Las Vegas gigs, which typically run for at least two years, can go either way.

In the case of Celine Dion, it has brought a decade of extreme prosperity. The Canadian-born entertainer’s first show “A New Day” ran from 2003 through to 2007 at the famed The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, and in 2011 she returned to the venue for “Celine.” Earlier this year, her manager and husband Rene Angelil announced that Dion had extended her residency contract through to 2019.

Bette Midler however, went in a different direction – fulfilling just the requirements of her initial contract and parting ways with Sin City in 2009. The Las Vegas Weekly at the time reported that the Divine Miss M. was “the first Colosseum resident to have failed to sell out all or most of her shows or extend her stay.”

However, if history tells us anything, Spears still has the commercial pull to draw eyeballs and sell tickets.

Her “The Circus” tour in 2009 was deemed a hit, grossing $131.8 million and breaking attendance records in various cities –but it drew a mixed reaction from critics.

People magazine wrote that Spears “never really hit her old stride,” while the Toronto Sun observed that “she could lip-synch the words (one can assume) and strut around the stage well enough, but there was little in the way of genuine passion, joy.”

And the “Circus” tour didn’t come without its share of controversy. The songstress was said to be “extremely upset” by the onslaught of negative press during the tour, with critics slamming the miming. The hoopla even prompted New South Wales’ Fair Trade Minister Victoria Judge to proclaim that tickets to Spears’ concerts should carry a disclaimer stating that the show is pre-recorded.

Regardless, she returned to the road in 2011 with the “Femme Fatale” tour, which was considered a success.

“Britney has been living a relatively laid-back life recently, and these concerts are back-to-back and very intense,” Kaiser pointed out. “There is a good chance the pressure to perform regularly and the distance from her support system can send her into a spiral.”

However, others are confident the 31-year-old mom, who has managed to stay at the top of the charts, will pull it off without a glitch.

“Britney Spears continues to be one of the most celebrated female performers, as well as a pop culture phenomenon, so I’m confident sufficient demand will be there for ticket sales,” said Hollywood agent, Alec Shankman.

Reps for Spears and Caesars Entertainment did not respond to a request for comment, but a spokesperson for Planet Hollywood hinted at something to come…

“Nothing has been announced,” said the rep. “Yet.”
