Mindy McCready involved in murder probe following boyfriend’s death, report says

Following Mindy McCready's boyfriend's sudden death last week, police are investigating if David Wilson, 34, could have been murdered, according to a new report.

A rep from the  Cleburne County Arkansas Sheriff’s Office told the National Enquirer that Wilson's death is still being investigated, despite the fact that McCready's rep labeled his death a suicide.

"It could take weeks for the state crime lab to complete tests on Mr. Wilson's body, and if you'll notice, it was Mindy McCready's spokesperson--not anyone involved in the investigation--who made the determination that Mr. Wilson's death was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Cleburne County Sheriff Marty Moss told the Enquirer.

Wilson is the father of a 9-month old son with McCready.

Following his death, McCready's rep confirmed to FOX 411 that Wilson committed suicide.

"Today, we mourn the loss of my life partner and my children's father, David Wilson," McCready said in a statement to FOX411. "David was my soulmate; he was a caregiver and guiding hand to our sons, Zander and Zayne. He was a precious gift from God to all of us and, yesterday, he returned home and is now with his mother and father."

A source also told the Enquirer that police are looking at McCready's statement to police and if she would see any financial gain from Wilson's death, but the gossip magazine added the singer was not a suspect in his death.

McCready, 37, found fame in the mid-1990s when she moved to Nashville at the age of 18, armed with only her karaoke tapes. Her first album, "Ten Thousand Angels," sold two million copies.

Her next four albums weren't as successful. Her personal troubles began encroaching on her professional success. According to her website, she suffers from severe depression.

In August 2011, she filed a libel suit against her mother and the National Enquirer's parent company, American Media Inc., over a story published in the tabloid newspaper that quoted Inge.

And in 2008, McCready was admitted to a hospital after police said she cut her wrists and took several pills in a suicide attempt.

During the TV show "Celebrity Rehab 3" in 2010, McCready came off as a sympathetic figure, and host Dr. Drew Pinsky called her an angel in the season finale.

McCready's rep and the Cleburne County Arkansas Sheriff’s Office did not return FOX 411's request for comment.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
