Lindsay Lohan’s antics made gossip headlines time and time again in 2012. But it seems her stint working on “The Canyons” this summer was such a catastrophe that even the New York Times couldn’t resist taking an in-depth look at the train wreck that is Lindsay Lohan. [pullquote]

In an 11-page piece titled “Here’s What Happens When You Cast Lindsay Lohan in Your Movie,” Times contributor Stephen Rodrick delves into Lohan’s days filming the Bret Eaton Ellis flick, alleging the actress’ time was filled with drinking and driving, pill popping and random disappearances.

Rodrick, who director Paul Schrader allowed on the movie’s set, described the challenges working with Lindsay: “[The producer] noticed that she and [her assistant] Gavin had been drinking...Quietly, [Braxton] Pope told Lohan that he could get her a driver to take her home. But she refused… They all hoped they would still have a lead actress in the morning.”

The piece also alleges Lohan stayed out all night partying with Lady Gaga and took sleeping pills, which caused her to then miss scheduled meetings.

After being fired from the film for not showing up, Lohan cried and begged for her role back, explaining she “missed the meeting at Prettybird because she had been discussing the script with Nolan Funk until 3 a.m. and then took a sleeping pill.”

They gave her another chance.

Schrader’s challenges working with Lohan didn’t end there. Like many directors before him, he struggled with Lindsay’s constant tardiness. The article also alleges Lohan cost the project financially by racking up bills for pricey meals and alcohol.

But perhaps the most frightening message of the piece is that Lohan doesn’t appear to take any of her problems seriously. Lohan is quoted lightly joking about her frequent jail stints and arrest. The actress even reportedly owns coasters that read “I used to worry, but now I have a pill for that."

“She talked of a recent photo shoot where she was asked to wear stripes. She shifted into her best Joan Rivers imitation. ‘I said, ‘Hello, stripes after jail, so not a good idea!’”

When Lohan was complimented on a challenging scene in the film where she had to appear to be abused by porn star James Deen’s character, she responded by quipping “Well, I’ve got a lot of experience with that from my dad.”

A rep for Lohan did not immediately return FOX 411's request for comment.

“The Canyons” is set to be released sometime in 2013.
