Latin GRAMMYs: Celebrities Arrive on Green Carpet
Celebrities arrive at the 13th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Juanes and Juan Luis Guerra added more accolades to their repertoires, as both singers took home the Latin GRAMMY in the coveted Album of the Year category during the 13th annual awards ceremony.
Deemed Latin music’s most important evening, the Latin GRAMMYs were celebrated for the sixth time at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas, Thursday evening.
Juanes’ MTV Unplugged record, produced by Guerra, is a compilation of Juanes’ best hits remixed acoustically, along with a documentary on the making of the album. The record also won a Latin GRAMMY for Best Long Form Music Video.
“Long live Colombia!” said Juanes, GRAMMY award in hand on stage. “I have to thank God for letting me feel love through music.” The singer and philanthropist then thanked his wife, his children and Guerra for his creative guidance in the making of the record.
“Thank you Jesus my savior, who has granted me the serenity to do this,” Guerra told the audience. “And for my beautiful Dominican Republic.”
Guerra, who was up for six nominations, also won the Latin GRAMMY for Producer of the Year, shortly after getting the crowd dancing to his latest single, “En el cielo no hay hospital.”
As for Juanes, the Colombian musician teamed up with Mexican legend Carlos Santana and rocked out the house playing on their guitars.
Another major win for Colombia came when Fonseca took the Latin GRAMMY for Best Tropical Fusion Album for his work titled “Ilusion+.”
It was also a victorious evening for Mexican duo Jesse & Joy, whose single “Corre” won them four Latin GRAMMYs for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album and Best Short Music Video.
"Wow, it really is an honor,” said Joy Huerta. “Thank you to all the people who made this song theirs.” The brother and sister also thanked Juanes and Guerra for inspiring them to be great throughout their careers.
Fellow Mexican singer Carla Morrison took home two Latin GRAMMYs for Best Alternative Music Album and for Best Alternative Song.
Mexican DJ’s 3BallMTY got emotional as they won the award for Best New Artist. The all-male young band even brought close friend from LMFAO sky blu, to perform their hit “Inténtalo” and give a Cumbia twist to LMFAO’s “Party Rock” anthem.
Other highlights of the show included performances by Pitbull, who opened the ceremony with his catch tune “Don’t Stop the Party,” and closed out the ceremony singing “Crazy People” with Dominican rapper and his protegé Sensato.
Both Pitbull performances showed off a plethora of bikini-clad dancers, who Pitbull referred to as “hot sexy ladies.”
David Bisbal performed his hit “Lloraré las penas” while Brazilian star Michel Telo and the Blue Man Group performed his popular song “Ai se eu te pego.”
Mexican folk singer Lila Downs recreated a day of the dead carnival and Bachata star Prince Royce teamed up with Mariachi singer Joan Sebastian for a collaboration of his single “Soy incondicional.”
