This could have been awkward.

Vice President Joe Biden filmed a cameo for the critically acclaimed but ratings challenged sitcom "Parks and Recreation,” due to air on next week's Nov. 15 episode.

Biden filmed his role in the NBC comedy series back in July when the show was in Washington DC, according to Entertainment Weekly, way before this week's Presidential election.

If Romney/Ryan had been victorious, Biden's cameo (he plays himself, inside the White House) would have had a much darker subtext.

The filming was kept under wraps, executive producer Michael Schur told The New York Times, because if news of the cameo had come out during the election, Romney's veep Paul Ryan may have had to have been given equal cameo time.

Biden has frequently been joked about on the show as an object of Leslie Knopes’ (star Amy Poehler’s) affection.

“[Leslie] has a lot of female heroes that cross party lines. She has a lot of social figures that she considers heroes, but the funniest hero is Joe Biden,” Schur told Entertainment Weekly. “There’s an episode last season where she says, ‘Joe Biden is on my celebrity sex list — well, he is my celebrity sex list’…”

Next week’s episode filmed various scenes around the nation’s capitol, according to EW, and Biden got along well with the cast and even ad-libbed some of his lines for the show, Schur said.

“He was clearly a big fan of Amy. It was the day the Emmy nominations came out and when he walked through the door he congratulated her on her Emmy nomination… He said some very nice things about the show and talked about how the pro-public service message was meaningful.”

Schur added to the Times that Biden said he watches “Parks and Rec” with his family and they are all fans.
