Taylor Swift wears her heart on her guitar strings. So it seemed fitting that the 22-year-old would be featured on an upcoming episode of VH1′s "Storytellers." "Songs happen in really strange, quirky ways,” Swift told VH1 News before the taping.
More than 2,500 fans and students at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, Calif., got the opportunity to listen to Swift as she shared what she called her “quirky” songwriting process. Swift said she believes in a good love story, and therefore, most of her catalog is full of unabashed love songs and odes to heartache — but she claimed she never thought they would end up becoming No. 1 singles.
“I’m excited about telling the beginnings of stories, like the story of this song called ‘Ours,’” Swift said. “It’s about this guy that nobody thought I should be with, so I wrote this song specifically just to play it for him.”
She continued: “Like, I don’t care what anyone says. I don’t care that you have tattoos. I don’t care that you have a gap between your teeth. I love you for who you are, and that song ended up making it on the record and becoming a No. 1 song.”
As for the song that made Swift and international star, the singer-songwriter explained what inspired her first No. 1 hit — “Love Story.”
“Then, you take me getting mad at my parents when I was 17 because they didn’t want me dating this dude — and I threw a fit and ran to me room and wrote a song on my bedroom floor called ‘Love Story,’” she said. “That turned into something I never expected it to be — our first No. 1 worldwide hit.”
Swift is currently gearing up for the release of her forth studio album, "Red," on October 22. “There are 16 songs on the album and every single one of them is about some sort of intense emotion that I felt,” she told MTV News back in September.
