Marc Anthony is taking on after his estranged wife Jennifer Lopez and stepping into his judging shoes as he preps to take on the contestants on “The X Factor” kicking off a second season on Sept. 12.

TMZ is reporting that Marc Anthony has officially signed on to be a celebrity mentor on the singing completion along with Selena Gomez’s main squeeze Justin Bieber.

The Salsa crooner, who was married to former “American Idol” judge Jennifer Lopez has officially singed paperwork with FOX, TMZ says. The entertainment publication also says that Marc Anthony and Simon Cowell (who is the creator of both “The X Factor” & “Idol”) have been buddies for years.

Marc Anthony joins fellow Latin Demi Lovato who is one of the four fixed judges on the competition. Other music heavy weights include pop princess Britney Spears and successful music producer L.A. Reid.

The news of Marc Anthony’s new gig comes just as the Puerto Rican singer preps to sing the national anthem at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday in Charlotte, N.C.
Marc  Anthony will be taking center stage on Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Bank America Stadium.

Other celebrities who will be making an appearance include the Foo Fighters, Mary J. Blige, Earth, Wind and Fire, James Taylor, Delta Rae and Inspire the Fire.

"This roster of performances only adds to the excitement building in Charlotte for the historic week ahead of us," the 2012 Democratic National convention taking place in Convention Chair Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said in a statement.

"The tens of thousands who will attend Convention events in person, and all those tuning in across the country, should be ready for quite a show."

Rapper Pitbull has reportedly also been tapped to be perform at an after party for the DNC and rumors are swirling that actress Jessica Alba will also have a role at the convention along with “Desperate Housewives” actress and Obama supporter Eva Longoria.
