Jack White tops Billboard charts; Gotye sets sales record

Jack White's first album as a solo artist, "Blunderbuss," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, showing that the decision for the White Stripes to go their separate ways may have been a good one, for him at least.

White is also on the Alternative Songs list at number 20 and 33 for his songs "Sixteen Saltines" and "Love Interruption," respectively.

Over on the Hot 100 charts, Gotye's addictive "Somebody That I Used To Know" remains at number one for a third week in a row. Billboard's Silvio Pietroluongo says the song is the first to sell more than 400,000 units in three consecutive weeks.

Also on the chart, Wiz Khalifa shows that if you "Work Hard, Play Hard," you will succeed, as his song of the same name debuts at number 17.

Speaking of playing hard, big time musicians gathered in all corners of world, from New York to New Orleans to Paris to celebrate International Jazz Day. Artists like Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan entertained crowds at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York while Herbie Hancock, Ellis Marsalis, trumpeters Terence Blanchard and Kermit Ruffins performed at sunrise near the french quarter in New Orleans.

On the other side of the musical dial, former pop star Jessica Simpson and fiance Eric Johnson welcomed the arrival of their daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson on May 1st. The fashion star broke the news via twitter announcing that her bundle of joy weighed in at a whopping 9 lbs. 13 oz.
