Early estimates suggest "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" has topped the U.S. weekend box office for the third week in a row.
The vampire romance from Summit Entertainment took in an estimated $16.9 million, Hollywood.com reported.
Despite its ongoing success, the take was less than half of last weekend's $42 million and far below its $139.5 million opening weekend -- the fifth-biggest debut in box office history.
"The Muppets" (Walt Disney Pictures) took second place with $11.2 million.
Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" -- the director's first 3D effort, released by Paramount Pictures -- made $7.6 million to land third place.
Family films rounded out the rest of the top five, with "Arthur Christmas" (Columbia Pictures) bringing in $7.3 million and "Happy Feet Two" (Warner Bros.) earning $6 million.
